Gareth's natural touch earns tree-mendous results!

LARNE man Gareth Mitchell’s ‘tree-mendous’ efforts have been recognised by the 2004 Gift Of The Year Awards held at the Savoy Hotel, London on the 24th of June.

Gareth, the creator of tree2mydoor.com which specialises in sustainable gifts, has ‘branched’ out despite being a relatively young business. The Gift of the Year is the industry award for excellence. It is open to all UK gift and home related companies; giving the opportunity to prove that products are winners -including Gareth’s trees.

Gareth said: “It’s excellent to get recognition from the UK gift Industry for Tree2mydoors natural tree gifts. I believe that it stands to prove that consumers are increasingly aware of living a new sustainable lifestyle.” Tree2mydoor entered the popular ‘Ancient Wisdom’ Tree Gift range into the Gift of the Year in early Spring. The Ancient Wisdom Tree Gift range has been inspired by the ancient knowledge of the Celtic tribes that populated the British Isles thousands of years ago.

Gareth said: The British Isles were once completely covered in huge forests, so understandably, the locals knew their trees and plants inside out! Many species held magical and spiritual properties as well as supplying help with ailments and important sources of food.”

The Ancient Wisdom Tree Gift selection offers a range of native tree species to the United Kingdom, detailing the magical properties as well as the individual zodiac sign associated with each species.

Business

Tree2mydoor was set up in October 2002 by Gareth, who had an agenda to Supply ‘greener’ products to consumers.

After leaving college, Gareth moved to Middlesbrough, NE England, to study marketing at University. Living in an urban and ethnically diverse community was an enriching experience that he adapted to easily. Gareth graduated and moved to London. After a year Working in marketing and publishing in South East England, Gareth moved back up North to Manchester.

Drawn back to his environmental roots, he began working for Groundwork (National Environmental Charity) where he was responsible for setting up new Internet marketing systems along with a range of corporate displays and newsletters.

The concept of giving a tree as a gift came to Gareth when he wanted to buy his parents a Christmas gift with more meaning than a box of chocolates or a music CD. After an Internet search, he couldn’t find a company that could supply a ‘tree gift’ and from here the concept of Tree2mydoor was born. A working business model was created for Tree2mydoor in Gareth’s spare time.

Gareth explains, “As the model was developed, it demanded more and more of my time which eventually led to me handing in my notice and going it alone!”
