Wife gives Keane special present - 11/05/09

Premier League footballer Robbie Keane will be searching for the perfect special gift to give to his wife after she gave birth to their first child.

The 28-year-old Tottenham Hotspur and Republic of Ireland striker is celebrating becoming a father for the first time after his wife Claudine, 25, gave birth to Robert Ronan Keane in a Dublin hospital.

Both mother and baby can now expect a flurry of unusual gifts from friends and family to mark the special occasion after both were reported to be in "excellent health".

Robbie and Claudine, a former Miss Ireland contestant and University College Dublin graduate, had been together for six years before they married last June.

The birth of his first child will be a welcome boost for Robbie, who has experienced a rollercoaster season on and off the pitch. He secured what he described as his "dream move" to boyhood heroes Liverpool last summer in a £23 million deal.

But the dream turned sour as he failed to win the trust of Liverpool's manager Rafa Benitez before being sold back to Spurs after failing to make an impression at Anfield.
