University's special gift for Hoy - 27/05/09
Gold medalist Chris Hoy is to be presented a special award by his old university.
The cycling champion, who won three golds in the Beijing Olympics, studied mathematics and physics at St Andrews University from 1994 to 1996, but now he will be made a doctor of science in June.
Speaking about the degree he said: He said: "I'm delighted to be awarded with an honorary degree from St Andrews.
"It's a real privilege and a huge honour. I've got some great memories from my time there as a student and it'll be good to be back."
The multiple world champion from Edinburgh is the most successful Olympic male cyclist of all time and has been showered in awards since his return from the games last summer.
In 2008 he was voted BBC Sports Personality of the Year and was also given a very special gift by the Queen when he was awarded a knighthood in the 2009 New Year honours list.
Sir Chris's latest honour will be presented to him during the university's traditional summer graduations on June 26.
