Twiggy gets birthday gift snaps - 09/07/09
The "world's first supermodel", Twiggy, will get the perfect 60th birthday gift with a public display of pictures telling her life story.
Photographer Barry Lategan propelled her to stardom, and her cropped hair and large eyelashes defined the Swinging Sixties.
Lategan's work in the Daily Express launched the model as "the Face of 1966".
The birthday display will feature early shots taken by Lategan as well as recent shots by other leading photographers including Bryan Adams, John Swannell, Mary McCartney, Steven Meisel and Solve Sundsbo.
Twiggy said: "Over my career I've had the privilege of working with many great photographers.
"I'm very excited to see so many of these portraits coming together at the National Portrait Gallery and in my new book. It's really interesting to see how fashion photography and portraiture have evolved throughout my career.
"I hope that this display and book will give people the opportunity to see these pictures that have captured definitive moments in my career."
