Tom and Katie's anniversary gifts - 20/11/09

Romantics may like to suggest that Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes celebrated their third year of marriage in advance because they could not wait to open their anniversary gifts, but it was work commitments that forced the couple to get together early.

Tom, 47, surprised Katie, 30, by renting out the second floor of Boston's Bricco restaurant, an exclusive Italian venue, on November 14, four days earlier than their third wedding anniversary.

The superstar couple dined on pasta, Chilean sea bass and steak in peace. Ron Leduc, the restaurant boss, said: "They held hands the entire night."

The next day, they ate at Boston's Abe and Louie restaurant, which has become one of the couple's favourite venues.

Later, Tom flew off to film Knight & Day with Cameron Diaz in Austria, while Holmes got to work shooting The Romantics on Long Island, New York.
