Swedish royal set for wedding gifts - 11/08/09

Princess Madeleine, the youngest daughter of Sweden's King Carl XVI Gustaf, will be thinking of possible wedding gifts after the announcement of her engagement to boyfriend Jonas Bergstrom.

Madeleine, 27, is third in line to the Swedish throne, after her sister Crown Princess Victoria and brother Prince Carl Philip.

The Swedish Royal Court announced the engagement between the couple but said no date has been set for the happy event.

Mr Bergstrom, 30, has been working as an associate lawyer at Stockholm-based firm Vinge, since he gained his masters degree in law in 2006 from Stokholm University. The couple met around seven years ago through mutual friends.

A press release said that the king has given his consent to the couple and "in accordance with the constitution received the approval of the government".

In February this year, heiress to the throne, Princess Victoria, 31, announced her own engagement to Daniel Westling. They are set to tie the knot in June next year.
