School's wedding gift for teacher - 04/08/09

Staff at a primary school in Worcestershire helped organise the wedding of a teacher who feared she might have to cancel her big day after her partner lost his job.

The special wedding gift was for Emma Pritchard, 26, whose father as well as husband-to-be, Dan Partridge, were made redundant shortly before Christmas.

Her colleagues at Ashton-under-Hill First School made generous contributions, some of which even paid for the couple's honeymoon in London.

Bryony Baynes, head teacher at the school, said: "Emma was very upset and said she thought she would have to cancel the wedding and put it on hold because they couldn't afford it.

"I said 'why cancel it, we'll do it for you'."

A marquee was put up in the school playground, a classroom was converted to a bar and the school hall served as a disco.

Local residents and staff assisted with the catering and Mrs Baynes' husband, the Rev Matthew Baynes, conducted the ceremony at St Barbara's Church.

A choir of schoolchildren was arranged and one of the PGCE (post-graduate certificate of education) students took the photographs.
