Princely gift for Danish royals - 06/05/09
Denmark's royal family will be searching for special gifts to welcome Princess Marie's new son to the world.
The newborn is seventh in line to the Danish throne and is the first child for Marie and her husband Prince Joachim.
The baby, which weighed in at 6lbs 7oz, comes just a year after the couple married in May 2008, forcing Marie, 33, to give up her French citizenship to marry the Scandinavian country's Prince.
The 39-year-old prince told reporters at the hospital in Copenhagen that his wife and the child were both doing fine and that "it is a very moving moment".
Prince Joachim was present during the birth of his son and was given the important job of cutting the umbilical cord.
He said that the couple have not yet decided on a name for the new royal, so friends and family will have to wait a little longer before rushing out for any special gifts or wait until the christening to hear the chosen name.
Joachim already has two sons, Felix, seven, and Nikolai, nine, from a previous marriage to Alexandra Manley, but the couple divorced in 2005. It was the first Danish royal divorce in nearly 160 years.
