Men use crunch to avoid Mother's Day - 04/03/09
Research has found that men across the country will try to avoid buying a Mother's Day gift this year, using the credit crunch as an excuse.
According to a survey by www.WilkinetBabyCarrier.com, one in six men have revealed they will not even bother giving their mum or partner a card because they claim they can not afford it.
Although the poll found that many men will still buy a gift this year, they intend to spend less.
However, there is good news for these thrifty shoppers as the research shows that the things mums and wives want most on Mother's Day cost very little.
A home-made card came in as the top way to be treated on Mother's Day, although some mothers still want to be treated with a bought gift.
But men do not have to splash the cash to buy unique Mother's Day gifts. For under £25 they can buy a beech tree, which is also known as "Mother of the Woods" because it offers protection and deep wisdom, just like a mother.
A spokesman for www.WilkinetBabyCarrier.com said: "It should be reassuring for people to know that what Mums want most is to feel special on Mothering Sunday."
