Memorial gifts mark Kennedy's death - 27/08/09
President Barack Obama is to deliver the eulogy at Senator Edward Kennedy's funeral as a lasting memorial gift to the US politician who died at his Cape Cod home aged 77.
Mr Kennedy was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumour in May 2008 and underwent surgery and a gruelling regimen of radiation and chemotherapy.
But he lost his battle to the disease much to the sadness of Mr Obama, who received his continuous support throughout his presidential campaign.
The funeral for the long-time senator, who was the brother of former President John F Kennedy and the head of one of politics' most famous families, will take place at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Basilica in the Mission Hill neighbourhood of Boston.
He will be buried the same day at Arlington National Cemetery close to his brothers, John and Robert, who were both assassinated in the 1960s.
Speaking about the Senator Mr Obama said: "For his family, he was a guardian. For America, he was a defender of a dream."
