Memorial gifts at Sir Bobby service - 21/09/09
Gifts from fans and football stars alike were in abundance at a memorial service for the "gentleman" of British sport, Sir Bobby Robson.
Durham Cathedral held one thousand invited guests as well as footballing luminaries such as Sir Alex Ferguson, England manager Fabio Capello and Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola.
The televised event was broadcast live and played on huge TV screens for fans outside Newcastle United and Ipswich Town football grounds.
Managers and players from different leagues and periods who benefited from Sir Bobby's advice all attended to give memorial gifts and thanks for his life.
Personal tributes were led by Gary Lineker, who said he became Britain's second highest goal-scorer thanks to Sir Bobby, and reminisced about the man's time managing England.
Lineker said beforehand: "I will be nervous because I won't want to let him or his family down. I could probably do with one of his famous pep talks."
Sir Alex also spoke in memory of his friend, who won trophies managing European teams in Holland, Portugal and Barcelona before returning to England to manage Newcastle.
