'Green' Christmas gifts for Obamas - 03/12/09

The Obamas' Christmas gifts are expected to be in line with the eco-friendly ideas they are promoting during their first festive season in the White House.

Holiday decorations at the official residence of the US president will consist of recycled ornaments and natural materials.

The highlight of the celebrations will be a 390-pound gingerbread White House, covered in white chocolate with a marzipan replica of Bo, the first family's dog.

First lady Michelle Obama said their theme this year was "Reflect, Rejoice, Renew".

She explained the choice saying her family spends the holidays reflecting on its blessings, rejoicing in the company of friends and family, and renewing their commitments to each other and causes they believe in.

Speaking at an event, she said: "I wanted to continue that part of the tradition during our first holiday season at the White House."
