Firm rations popular Hamster gifts - 27/11/09
A British firm is rationing one of this year's most coveted Christmas gifts over concerns they are being bought up and sold on by website traders.
Many retailers are having to regularly restock the Go Go Pets Hamster, which is selling like hot cakes in toy shops across the UK.
As stocks decreased, Argos decided to limit customers to two hamsters each.
A spokeswoman said they wanted "to ensure we are fair to all genuine customers" as they waited for more stocks, and the move was only a short term measure.
Customers to a Toymasters store in Barnsley were told they were allowed to purchase just one of the popular rodents in a bid to prevent eBay traders from hoarding the toys.
No-one from the store was available for comment.
Argos sells the hamsters for £9.99 each, but eBay was auctioning a set of four of the different hamster characters - Chunk, Num Nums, Pipsqueak and Mr Squiggles - for as much as £150.
