Early baby gifts for Cerys Matthews - 26/11/09

Friends and family will be rushing to buy baby gifts for Welsh singer Cerys Matthews after she gave birth to a boy eight weeks earlier than expected.

The 40-year-old former Catatonia star announced the news on her official website and said both she and her baby were "doing well".

Still unnamed, the boy is the first child for the singer and her partner Steve Abbott, who is also her manager.

"How happy I am to let you know that our baby boy was born on Monday 23, eight weeks earlier than expected," the "message from Cerys" stated.

"We are doing very well and excited now to share this happy news with you."

She added: "What an amazing surprise, just after presenting Children In Need on Friday! Love always, Cerys and Steve."

The singer-songwriter already has two children - a boy and a girl - from American music producer Seth Riddle, her former husband.

Pictures of the singer co-hosting the Children In Need at the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff have been put up on her website.
