Carreras' unique gift inspires Brit - 14/05/09
Tenor Jose Carreras is set to receive a very special gift indeed when he is presented with a lifetime achievement award by the Duchess of Cornwall.
He will receive the honour during the 10th anniversary show of the Classical Brit Awards, which will be hosted by Myleene Klass.
The event is a showcase for classical music and has in the past honoured such luminaries as Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Sir Paul McCartney and Lord Lloyd Webber.
As well as being presented with the special gift, Carreras will be performing at the awards ceremony, with the line-up also including Placido Domingo, Katherine Jenkins and the Priests.
Britain's Got Talent schoolgirl star Faryl Smith, who released her highly successful solo classical debut album just a couple of months ago, will also perform.
Dickon Stainer, chairman of the Classical Brit Awards committee, said: "We are particularly thrilled that the Duchess of Cornwall, who is the patron of the London Chamber Orchestra (LCO) under the baton of Christopher Warren-Green, has agreed to attend the Classical Brit Awards in this, the 10th anniversary show.
"It promises to be a very special evening."
