Birthday gifts as Queen turns 83 - 15/06/09
Supporters of the royal family took the opportunity to lavish the Queen with some special birthday gifts at the weekend to celebrate the monarch`s official 83rd birthday.
Thousands of well wishers lined up to watch as the milestone was marked by the traditional Trooping the Colour parade in London`s historic Horse Guards Parade in Whitehall.
Senior members of the royal family were in attendance at the ceremony, including Prince William and Prince Harry, their stepmother the Duchess of Cornwall and the Duke of Edinburgh. Also taking part in the event was the Prince of Wales and his sister, the Princess Royal.
The precision marching by hundreds of Guardsmen taking part was also enjoyed by their families and friends who watched from stands overlooking the ground.
The Queen took the royal salute during the military spectacle, a gesture she has performed every year since 1951 - apart from 1955 when there was a national rail strike.
