Arshavin risks costly wedding gifts - 04/12/09

A "grandiose" event in one of the world's most romantic settings would be the perfect wedding gift, says the girlfriend of footballer Andrey Arshavin.

Last week Yulia, who previously turned down £80,000-a-week Arsenal ace Arshavin when he proposed four years ago, spoke of her expensive tastes.

The mother of Arshavin's two children said: "If I told you that I don't want a marriage, it would be a lie.

She said that now it is the right time to get married, but only if it is a lavish bash.

The 26-year-old added: "My dream is to have our wedding celebration on Vassilievski Island in St Petersburg, with lots of tables covered with snow-white cloths and champagne poured into beautiful crystal glasses."

The venue she has chosen is close to the Winter Palace of the Romanov Tsars in the couple's native city - St Petersburg - and costs up to £1 million for exclusive weekend hire.

Wedding planners estimate that the bill will be close to £5 million including venue, food, champagne, the designer dress and five-star hotel rooms for their guests and for security.
