Perfect wedding gift for couple - 29/09/09

Few wedding gifts could compare to that bought by a Telford couple who paid just £51 for a grand champagne wedding celebration on ebay.

The bid by Colette Palin, 25, was accepted by three-star Buckatree Hall near Telford, Shropshire, so she could marry 34-year-old Lee Clark at a discounted reception.

Following a last minute cancellation, the hotel decided to put the event up for sale on the auction website.

A red carpet arrival greeted the newly-weds. The win brought them a champagne reception, a three-course wedding breakfast with wine for 35 people and an evening buffet for 50 people.

Thrown in were also some drinks, table decorations, floral arrangements, services of a toastmaster and a free overnight stay for the bride and groom on their wedding night.

The couple, who are expecting a child, are starting their wedded life minus debts incurred from a lavish ceremony, they said.

At the end of the evening, the bride's father paid the bill in cash.

Colette said: "We heard the hotel were planning to auction a wedding day on eBay and we just thought we would see if we could strike lucky."

"You can't really put a price on your big day but not having the worry of being saddled with debt afterwards has really helped us enjoy our day."
