Nursery to get ancient tree gift - 09/10/09

A Devon nursery is to receive the fantastic tree gift of a cutting from the original Bramley tree, to celebrate 200 years of the apple type.

RHS Rosemoor will receive the cutting, which will be planted by Alan French, Master of the Worshipful Company of Fruiterers, as part of celebrations this weekend.

The event, which is organised with Thornhayes nursery and the South West Area Fruit Group, sees Rosemoor celebrate being one of the 200 places given a cutting of the Bramley tree.

Apple-inspired dishes will be made in cookery demonstrations during the day and other events organised include apple planting, guided tours of the fruit and vegetable garden, apple advice and an apple identification task, for anyone looking to give a tree gift.

Diana Gilding, events supervisor at RHS Rosemoor, said: "Apple Day is always hugely popular as it offers visitors an opportunity to talk to experts about anything and everything to do with apples! With so many interesting and exciting things to do, this is a great event for the whole family to enjoy!"
