Memorial gift from Calendar Girls - 30/04/09

Some of the original Calendar Girls are marking the 10th anniversary of their decision to bare all by stripping off again for a new set of pictures.

The 2010 calendar will feature six of the original 11 women from Rylstone Women's Institute, in the Yorkshire Dales, and will hit the shops on May 11.

They women have also come together for a 10th anniversary documentary talking about their original saucy calendar in 1999 and their efforts to generate enough money to buy a sofa for a hospital waiting room.

Admiration for their quirky idea snowballed and over the last decade they have travelled extensively and found themselves portrayed in a Hollywood movie and a West End stage adaptation.

A great memorial gift for their efforts is that their fundraising tally to date has hit almost £2 million.

It was the death of Angela Baker's husband, John, in 1998 that inspired the original calendar.

She said: "It wasn't 11 women having a good time, taking their clothes off, we did it in memory of John and to raise money for Leukaemia Research - and that's what we have not got to forget."

The last calendar showed the women hiding their modesty in a number of clever poses, such as behind teapots and vases. This year the women may have grabbed what little sun Britain's had and done a few shots hidden by topiary trees or even baring all on their own Yorkshire Dales.
