Cool birthday gift for the Queen - 29/06/09
The Queen received a belated birthday gift at the Royal Highland Show in Edinburgh in the form of a year's supply of ice cream.
Maitland Mackie, chairman of Mackie's of Scotland, presented the Queen with 12 months' worth of vouchers for the Aberdeenshire ice cream, founded 22 years ago.
The ice cream brand had been exhibiting at the four-day agricultural show in Ingliston, where the Queen made her first official visit to the event for 25 years.
Speaking about the sweet surprise Mr Mackie said the Queen had laughed at the birthday gift.
Mr Mackie said: "We gave the Queen a whole year's supply of ice cream because we're a bit worried about the economics of the royal household."
The Queen's visit marked the 225th anniversary of the Royal Highlands and Agricultural Society of Scotland (RHASS), of which she is a patron.
Both the Queen and the Princess Royal attended the event much to the delight of the organisers, contestants and spectators.
