Woodland to mark Estate centenary - 19/02/10
As part of a celebration marking a century of Cambridgeshire County Farms Estates, the county council has been awarded funds to plant 8,640 broad-leaved trees and shrubs.
The community wood to commemorate the Estate's centenary will be planted on land owned by Cambridgeshire County Council's County Farms Estate.
Through a Woodland Creation Grant, the Forestry Commission is providing funds for the new woodland along with the Cambridgeshire County Council.
Around 13,500ha of land makes up the Farms Estate, which also houses 250 tenant farmers.
Volunteers have been invited to participate in the planting of trees on February 27.
The site of the new public access woodland is located off New Road between Oakington, Girton and Histon.
