Village and woodland to go on sale - 10/03/09
An entire village, which includes 450 acres of woodland and 1,500 acres of farmland, is to go on sale for up to £25 million.
Linkenholt, near Andover in Hampshire, is in an area of outstanding natural beauty and has a cricket club, a blacksmiths and a manor house.
Also included in the sale by the Herbert and Peter Blagrave Charitable Trust are 22 cottages and houses, a village shop and a commercial shoot.
The only thing that does not belong to the charity and is not for sale is the 12th-century St Peter's Church, and the villagers say they are keen to see the village stay the same.
Tenants will be able to remain in their homes after the sale and the estate will be sold whole.
Tim Sherston from estate agents Jackson-Stops & Staff in Newbury said the asking price is between £23 million and £25 million.
"It is very unusual, particularly in southern England, to have a whole village for sale. I think there was one in Oxfordshire about four or five years ago but that is the only one I can think of," he said.
"It's an excellent opportunity for someone to invest in prime agricultural and residential property."
