P-p-p-perfect Fathers Day gift - 18/06/09

A Midlands zoo has come up with the perfect Fathers Day gift at the same time as promoting a special adoption scheme.

Families looking for an ethical gift to give their fathers may well end up p-p-p-picking up a penguin at Dudley Zoo.

As part of the scheme people can adopt an 11-year-old Humboldt's penguin called Bob as a special present for animal lovers.

After fathering numerous chicks as part of the zoo's breeding programme for the endangered species, Bob has been chosen as the perfect role model for families looking to show their own fathers some appreciation.

For just £35 adopters receive a special Fathers Day card, a photo of Bob, a personalised certificate of adoption, a fact sheet about the species, the quarterly ZooNooz magazine and two complimentary tickets to the zoo.

Money from the scheme will be used to pay for feeding and housing Bob on the penguin conservation programme.

Zoo Curator Matt Lewis said: "We chose Bob because he is a good role model for fathers.

"He has fathered seven youngsters and he has been sitting on some eggs this spring, so he will have some more chicks hatching soon."
