Brits waste ethical living know-how - 19/10/09
A new survey says Britons are more informed about climate change than their European cousins.
Around 6,000 people in the UK, France, Germany and Spain were asked a series of six true or false questions in a climate change IQ test, with over two thirds (68%) of Britons knowing the correct answers.
But when it came to ethical living and behaving in an environmentally-friendly fashion, the survey found British children were behind their European counterparts.
Almost half (44%) said they were most likely to leave lights on after leaving a room and 40% admitted to using more electrical gadgets than any other member of their family.
The research was commissioned by the Energy Saving Trust to mark the start of Energy Saving Week.
The trust's chief executive Philip Sellwood said: "Our research clearly shows the British public has the knowledge, however they don't seem to act on it. As a nation we need to put theory in to practice.
"When it comes to combating climate change, everyone can do their bit. So people should listen to mum nagging, tell the kids to get out of the shower and get dad to switch off the TV. It is time for everyone across the UK to think green, act green and be green."
