200 trees planted in Everton Park - 13/03/09
Green-fingered volunteers have been working at Everton Park in Liverpool to help plant more than 200 trees.
The environmental regeneration charity Groundwork and the city council's parks team paired up after Greening Anfield volunteers decided they wanted to work on a project for the Year of the Environment.
The men and women aged between 20 and 70 planted silver birch, hazel, hawthorn, dogwood, elder and rowan.
Greening Anfield was established to train and educate young people to take action on climate change.
The scheme gives them the knowledge and skills to makes changes and lead their neighbourhood in reducing carbon footprints.
By the end of the initiative they hope to have recruited 100 eco-volunteers.
